Liwas People

In the past, the region depended heavily on four main elements, which illustrate the importance to the native population of the Liwa oasis. These were water, dates, camels and pearling.
Liwa was not on the trading route as some sources indicate. Very simply, it was a region inhabited by a lot of Bedouin tribes, because it was rich in water resources and not too far from Abu Dhabi and the Al Ain Oasis - a landmark well-known for its commercial trade and as a stop-over for the travelling caravans coming from Oman.
Amongst many changes, the development of the oil industry has altered the necessity for Bedouin families to move between the shores and the open desert of Liwa.
Every step in perfect grace, the government has carefully modernized life amongst its people, encouraging population centres such as Abu Dhabi to grow purposefully.
Today, communications in the desert are made much easier as the Bedouin take on own vehicles rather than being solely reliant on camels. Yet the Liwa, despite the economic revolution, has outwardly been little affected.
