A Way of Life

There are a dozen "Mahadher" (permanent villages) in Liwa. In addition there are numerous settlements which are occupied only at the time of the pollination of the dates; February to March, and the harvest; July to September. 

In summer, most of the local inhabitants used to leave their homes in the desert and head off to do other work in Abu Dhabi, on the shores or even venture deeper into the sea for pearl diving.
